Aarhus University and Gejst Studio approached us to create the design & animation for the new Aarhus University campaign. The goal was to help them communicate their core values to the first-year students through funny videos.
Dystopian Creatives provided their expertise on all levels of the production, from the script/story, design, boardomatic, all the way to final animation. At the end of an extremely enjoyable journey, we were able to deliver a serie of videos tackling important topics such as integration, respect, kindness & responsibility.

The most important element without a doubt! We wanted the animation to be quirky and because the final film has very limited text and no intelligible dialogue, each movements had to be very clear.
Because of (thanks to) Aarhus University diversity, we knew from the beginning that we would need to show a lot of different types of characters. It led us to build a strong system that allowed us to quickly change the color and style of each characters, in just a few clicks we were able to add or remove accessories. After a usual fashion show and a few catwalks, the characters were placed in their environment and animated!
The four different scenes you can see in the film are all about showing absurd and wacky characters, doing the “wrong” thing, before finally getting it. The story beats use metaphors and abstract situations to explain the code-of-conduct. We strongly believe that serious messages always stick better through comedy!
Be Nice, not Træls*!
One of the challenge for this campaign was to convey important values to the freshmen who starts university. During their first weeks, there can be a lot of partying and peer pressure. Through short and comedic animations, we hope that this campaign will help prevent bullying without being sanctimonious.
*Træls = annoying
